I’ve mentioned before- perhaps quite a few times- that our gut health can affect our state of mind.

This goes pretty deep. There are so many layers and factors that influence our gut health. If this fascinates you too, let me know and I can hook you up with resources from which you can learn. I’ve got you!

But I also totally get that not everyone is as hyped up about these things as me- hah! So I’ve come up with a quick list of 5 things you can keep in mind when focusing on better gut health.

Top 5 Principles for Better Gut Health

1. Eat a diverse diet of mostly plants.

Can you eat 30 different plants in the next 30 days?

2. Avoid processed foods.

If you look at the label and don’t recognize a bunch of the ingredients, consider that a sign to steer clear. Eat more whole foods- items that don’t need labels. But try not to obsess over every little thing you consume. This may seem to counter what I just said, but I don’t want you to stress/worry. Give yourself grace and permission to eat healthy MOST of the time.

3. Fiber, fiber, fiber.

Fiber might be the single most important change you can make for better gut health. 30g daily is recommended nationally, but we actually need quite a bit more for the best microbiome. Learn what foods are fiber all-stars. Make sure to “start low and go slow.”

4. Probiotics are underrated.

The residence they take up and the interactions they have with other parts of your GI tract help maintain optimal health throughout your body and mind.

5. Stress resilience.

The health of your gut affects your resiliency to stress and vice versa. It’s a 2-way street. Have you ever felt super stressed out and then felt like your stomach hurt or things just didn’t feel right in your abdomen? Chronic, elevated stress levels can lead to a chronically, irritated GI tract.

Improved gut health not only makes your tummy feel better, but it spills over to improve the health of your mind too. Stress resilience, mood, focus/clarity, I could go on and on. They are inextricably connected.

Starting Fresh

You may wonder how to “start fresh” or “wipe the slate clean.” Although I try to do my best to follow the principles that I teach, I actually reset my microbiome every 3-4 months. I find it to be a simple thing that really helps me in the long run. And as someone living with IBS, it has helped DRASTICALLY decrease the frequency of my attacks.

I always have great results with Amare’s 3-day Reboot+. It’s so simple and seems easier to do each time. Click the link below to learn more about what Reboot+ entails, to see if it would be a good fit for you, or send me an email and ask me anything. I’ve guided many clients and groups through resetting their microbiomes with Reboot+, and I’d love to help you as well!
